Juliana Gutiérrez Wiest
@julianawiest /www.julianagutierrezwiest.com
The artist Juliana Gutiérrez Wiest comes from Colombia. She emigrated to Germany at the age of 17 and thus began her journey into the art world. Her paintings and multimedia installations are characterised by the transculturality of both cultures. In this sense, Juliana combines abstract elements that embody the hazy memories of her Colombian homeland with precisely painted sculptures that are visually reminiscent of European classicism.
The multimedia artist does not choose the classic canvas as a painting surface, but aluminium. This material makes the artwork come alive, it absorbs light or reflects it back. Sometimes it seems brighter, sometimes darker. This effect helps to create a blurred world.
In her art and multimedia studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Juliana learned to combine the analogue world with the digital one. Thus, she brings her interactive artworks to life through a projection, with the aim of enabling the viewer to immersively dive into her works and interactively control the installation with the help of a controller.
