KINO ASYL | Films from our homeland from 26.11. to 01.12.2023
KINO ASYL presents a diverse film programme from all over the world. Young adults with refugee experience select and curate films from their home countries. The audience experiences a journey through different film cultures, sometimes funny, sometimes heart-wrenching and always special. Kino Asyl not only offers films, but also the personal stories of people who show their homeland through film. Film talks with the curators offer additional insights.
KINO ASYL has been taking place in various cultural venues in Munich for nine years now. The festival will spend a week travelling through various cultural venues in the city. It begins with a festive opening event on 26 November at the Münchner Kammerspiele and continues its journey to the NS Documentation Centre, the Kunstlabor 2, the Gasteig HP8, the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film, before finally celebrating a spectacular festival finale at the Bellevue di Monaco.
The festival presents a wide range of films including documentaries, feature films and experimental films. It enables viewers not only to experience fascinating stories, but also to get to know diverse regions, ways of life and world views. During film discussions with the curators, visitors are invited to engage in personal dialogue, gain deeper insights and be inspired to reflect. For the youngest cinema-goers, KINO ASYL also offers a special children's programme with film screenings for pupils from second to fourth grade.
Admission to all KINO ASYL events is free. Donations are requested.

"We would like to show a new film of our own this year. The film deals with refugee problems and how difficult it is for them to make their way. It's about pushback, which has become stronger in the last 3-4 years. Hardly anyone manages to cross the route between Turkey and Greece. Pushback is not just a word, there are unimaginable things behind it, such as the possibility of not surviving, losing one's children or family and suffering serious health and psychological consequences. That's why we were on Lesbos, to see it with our own eyes and show it to the world with our film."

"I want to show the film Schwimmerinnen because the film touched my heart. My experiences on the run were very similar. The film was recommended to me by a friend. When I saw it, I knew it was the right film for KINO ASYL.
Although the film was shot in Germany, I have only seen a few films that tell the stories of flight so impressively. It's important to me to share this story."
