Masks made from rubbish – upcycling with Eddy Ekete (Venue: KUNSTLABOR 2)

Together with the Congolese artist Eddy Ekete, you’ll explore the creative possibilities of upcycling in this four-hour workshop at Kunstlabor 2: using packaging, plastic and other everyday materials, you’ll create vibrant masks and develop your own characters and forms of expression.

Eddy Ekete and his collective Well, life is beautiful From Kinshasa, they are internationally renowned for their innovative mask and costume designs. Using found materials such as tins, disposable items, cables, plastic or car parts, they create impressive full-body costumes and performances. In their work, they explore social, environmental and political issues and draw attention to social injustices.

Please feel free to bring clean, empty packaging, Tetra Paks and other materials suitable for crafting to the workshop.

Depending on the weather, the workshop will take place indoors or outdoors. Please wear clothes that can get dirty and bring sun cream, something to drink and the consent form with you.

On Sunday 12 July, you can join us at our Anniversary celebration Experience a performance by Eddy Ekete in his mask costume. You are warmly invited to take part in this special event with your own handmade masks.
